I bring to Olympia a strong and positive voice for common sense and fiscal responsibility. As we navigate difficult times, I believe in solving problems — regardless of who gets the credit. While serving you in the legislature, I've demonstrated my ability to work effectively and make significant contributions to sound public policy. I take seriously my primary obligation to help constituents and enjoy learning the issues that impact our district and state. Your stories inspire my work and inform my decisions. In the thousands of letters, emails and calls I've received, the majority of our neighbors have made it clear: they expect the state to set priorities and not raise taxes in this economy. I voted to uphold the will of the people by supporting the Taxpayer Protection Act (I-960) and by standing firm against increased taxes. We must restore trust by governing within the constraints of our priorities and revenues, and with a commitment to the economic vitality and prosperity of our communities, businesses and families. Jobs for Washingtonians, fostering a healthy economic recovery, providing a world-class education for our children, insuring public safety, and caring for our most vulnerable requires the best of our energy and reform efforts, and will continue to be my focus.
